Metadata handling, keywords, etc, are there now but I use Photo Mechanic + for this, so I didn't follow closely the last improvments on the matter in DPL5. And I never used it as a DAM, because it would be foolish. I've done 5 to 10 weddings at best using DPL as my main processing software. #HOW TO USE DXO VIEWPOINT WITH LIGHTROOM SOFTWARE#I almost never used DPL5 as my main software for processing, for various reasons. I have post processed wedding with each of this software, separately or together. I've used extensively LR, C1 and DXO during my career. A fashion photographer will have different needs (he will shoot probably less pictures, but will have a more complex post processing), a sport photographer will have different needs (he will probably be more interested in a good jpeg rendition and a fast way to transfer his pictures). I typically deal with several thousands pictures every week and shoot in raw only. I mostly do weddings, so what I will consider as important in my review may not be to everyone's taste, of course. At best, we see a few messages when there is a new release, with a few debates about the improvments inside the new version, and that's it.Ī few things about me : I'm a professionnal photographer from France (sorry if my English is not perfect). We don't hear a lot about DPL5 here on FM. Everything has been said about Lightroom and Capture One, which are probably the most used software here on FM, and by the consumer and professional photographers out there as well. After reading and participating a little bit to the topic, I realized that DPL5 was not very well known or understood. #HOW TO USE DXO VIEWPOINT WITH LIGHTROOM UPGRADE#The most important reason to upgrade to the new version, however, is the 8-point perspective repair option. As I previsously mentionned on the Topaz Denoise vs Pureraw topic, I just wanted to make a personal review of DXO Photolab 5. If you want to change aspect ratio, however, you can crop manually.ĭxO ViewPoint 2 fixes perspective problems, lens distortion, tilted horizons, and deformed elements at the edges of the frame. I found it best to leave the Crop tool in Auto mode, which will do a good job of cropping only as much as really needed. ViewPoint 2 also comes with a Horizon Straightening tool and a Crop tool. This tool can also correct distortions after a perspective fix. The next feature on my list is Volume Deformation, which is quite successful at correcting organic forms at the edge of the frame. This enables correction of photos with complex vanishing points, or when the elements that need fixing aren't all at the same distance from where the photo was shot. The 8-point perspective correction allows you to place the correction lines on different planes. #HOW TO USE DXO VIEWPOINT WITH LIGHTROOM PRO#You can find the first three in other apps, as well (Capture One Pro 7, for example, has an identical perspective-correction tool) however, the 8-point correction feature in ViewPoint 2 is unique and offers dramatic improvements in perspective correction. The Perspective tool corrects vertical, horizontal, 4-point, and 8-point distortions. Lens distortion, which is the first panel in the sidebar, is corrected automatically, based on DxO's database. It installs as a standalone app or an Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, or Aperture plug-in. ViewPoint 2 uses the company's lens database to correct an image. Unique and Effective Perspective Correction
